Post-War Period




MIROSLAV WIECEK  
Date of birth: November 4, 1931
Died: July 12, 1997

He was one of the most talented Baník disciples. He played in A team since he was eighteen. He shared good and bad times in the fate of Baník for sixteen seasons playing in 325 matches and scoring more than 100 goals, which has brought him membership in the Club of League Marksmen. He was typical for shooting at goal by a short slap of his leg, he had a developed sense for game and he always knew where to stay. He was almost unfailing on the boundary line of penalty area. He left Baník for Vítkovice in 1964 where he was active until 1966 and in 1967 he ended his footballing career in Kopřivnice. He came back to Baník as a B team coach.

Achievements:
League Top Scorer three times in 1952, in the 1957/1958 and the 1958/1959 seasons. Member of the Club of League Marksmen scoring 174 goals. He played in Czechoslovak national team in 1953.
























 

TOMÁŠ POSPÍCHAL  
Date of birth: June 26, 1936
Died: October 21, 2003

He put on Baník strip already as a boy in Baník youth team. He left the team for Dukla Pardubice when he was serving in the army. His performance was rising after his coming back to Ostrava. Thus he was constantly counted on for the national team, in which he made himself famous with a goal pass in the finals of FIFA World Cup in Chile. Tomáš Popíchal was remarkably fast in move and thinking. The spectators in Bazaly have no other chance than to recall his escapes, fine passes and technical shots of his. He was capable to play on various positions, be it right wing or left center. After the end of his rich footballing career he returned to Ostrava as a coach.

Achievements:
He played in 165 first league matches and scored 58 goals. As for his performance in national team he played in 26 matches scoring 8 times. He was also a member of Czechoslovak team that went through to the finals in FIFA World Cup in Chile (silver medal).






















 

FRANTIŠEK SCHMUCKER  
Date of birth: January 28, 1940
Died: July 12, 2004

As early as at the age of fifteen he was a member of Slovan Bratislava youth team from where he joined up the army in Brno (1959). He headed for Ostrava from Brno in 1966. He wasn’t fond of big effects but he belonged to a modern school of goalkeepers who were guarding the goal as economically as possible. He was unique by a long-term stable performance efficiency. He belongs to a gallery of great Czechoslovak goalkeepers who made our football much more famous than forwards. He played in 300 first league matches and in 99 matches he saved his goal clean.

Achievements:
He took part in 1962 FIFA World Cup as a substitute and in 1964 Olympic Games where he won silver medal. He played twice in Czechoslovak national team and 13 times in olympic games national team (1962-1964).






















FRANTIŠEK VALOŠEK  
Date of birth: July 12, 1937

František was a typical left wing for his being fast, ready and unconspicuous. He didn’t have a liking for complicated play as once he got a ball, a fast and hardly perceptible action followed and all ended with his hard and unstoppable shot netting the ball in opponent’s goal. Writing reports about Mr. Valošek was a rewarding topic for the newspapermen as he had got a training in sailing. The most frequent headline of an interview with him would be as follows: ‘Sailor on a wing’.

Achievements:
He played in 151 first league matches scoring 54 goals. He plalyed for national team in Olympic Games in Tokyo where the team won silver medals.

Michal Frydrych v nominaci české jednadvacítky


Výkony obránce Michala Frydrycha nezůstaly bez povšimnutí. Kouč české reprezentační jednadvacítky Jakub Dovalil nominoval stopera Baníku pro přípravný zápas s Rumunskem, který „lvíčata“ sehrají příští středu v Ploješti.

 

Ladislav Krabec zpět v Baníku


Dlouholetý fyzioterapeut Baníku a šiřitel dobré nálady Ladislav Krabec se vrátil do funkce, v pozici maséra už při utkání v Mladé Boleslavi nahradil Petra Urbana.
